Manipal MIT
One of the first self-financing engineering colleges in the nation was founded in 1957 at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal. It joined the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), presently known simply as Manipal Academy of Higher Education, as a constituent institute in the year 2000.
Engineering streams are offered as Bachelors and Masters degrees at Manipal MIT. Additionally, it allows students the choice between full- and part-time research. For postgraduate-qualified Ph.D. students, the minimal time commitment is three years full-time and four years part-time. Applicants are eligible for a one-year relaxation if they have an MPhil.
The ministry of environmental sciences, DST, CSIR, AICTE, and other funding organisations support the institute’s sponsored research activities. With renowned research institutes and laboratories both domestically and internationally, it offers cooperative research initiatives.
Facilities:
Manipal MIT has a long history of student organisations and clubs that draw people from different academic fields, institutions, programmes, and countries. It’s one of the characteristics that give Manipal MIT a special charm and a distinct advantage over other college campuses.
There are academic-focused technical groups as well as cultural clubs that allow students to explore the performing arts, fine arts, music, dance, and other activities that are uplifting to the soul and mind.
A student at Manipal University has a lot to look forward to outside of classroom instruction, laboratory practicals, or even routine trips to the library. Teaching faculty and other staff members are equally enthusiastic about these clubs, and it’s amazing how a teacher and student switch roles during a technical club workshop. However, nothing quite takes one’s breath away like seeing a retired teacher performing the Yakshagana, a traditional form of folk theatre performed in rural Karnataka, on the plains of the present-day bustling town of Manipal. Manipal MIT has students from 59 different countries and counting, and this is just one of the numerous factors.
After graduation, an engineering graduate is anticipated to possess the knowledge and abilities necessary to address societal issues. Along with the domain-specific knowledge, additional fundamental abilities such as motivation and enthusiasm, adaptability and flexibility, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, and the capacity for interpersonal interaction are also anticipated. All of these need engineering education to be hands-on, applicable, current, and relevant. With this in mind, Manipal MIT created the concept of major student projects in 2007 as an experiment. Under this concept, the institute offers the infrastructure necessary to produce a technical project that will compete in an international competition. There are currently 20 major student projects taking on the Manipal MIT campus.
Since the Manipal Institute of Technology’s (Manipal MIT) Central Library is situated in the centre of the campus, students can access it whenever they want. 800 people can utilize the three-story, completely air-conditioned library, which has a total space of around 70,000 square feet.
Innovation has long been a priority at Manipal MIT. Inter-disciplinary concepts have been cultivated thanks to cutting-edge labs, support systems, mentorship from academics and business, and the thriving ecosystem of engineering, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, commerce, and management. The idea of “Experiential Learning” perfectly encapsulates Manipal MIT’s central philosophy, which is one of innovation. Open electives, the chance to work on Major Student Projects, numerous technical and non-technical clubs, hackathons, and final year projects all help to facilitate this. The Idea Cafe, Innovation Center, Manipal Universal Technology and Business Incubator, and the Manipal-Government of Karnataka Bioincubator—where Manipal MIT students have founded multiple start-up companies—all provide assistance for these activities. In addition to this, many students have started a few start-up businesses on a volunteer basis.
Programs available in Manipal MIT
