Summary:

The meaning of optimism, being optimistic, tips to be optimistic

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” ― Oscar Wilde

Life has two sides to it. There are good times and then there are bad times. Besides, they are both interdependent for one cannot exist without the other. However, it is our attitude that decides our mindset and approach in life. It is for us to decide if we look at the world as a playground or a battleground.

Being optimistic is the fire that keeps us warm during a storm. It is the key that opens the door to accomplishing our goals. So, to be happy in life, it is vital to focus on the positive aspects of your life. It is better to see the glass half-filled than half empty. A half-filled glass can quench your thirst but a half-empty glass will leave you thirsty.

Optimistic students are willing to confront life’s challenges and setbacks. It is the not-so-secret ingredient of success. It’s available to everyone, but many ignore it or care not to use it. However, by exercising optimism, students develop the self-assurance needed to meet obstacles and take responsibility for our errors.

Optimism keeps us alive in a world where pessimistic zombies listlessly move about. It gives us focus to complete objectives to reach our goals. Becoming optimistic is a choice. It is a rare case for a person to be born pessimistic. The very reason for life to flourish is optimism.

As students, you have the option of becoming an optimist or a pessimist. In addition, it’s up to you to make a choice as to take on happiness or sadness. Bad things might undoubtedly happen but good things persist.

There are many benefits to being optimistic. It is worth noting that a happy heart has a lower risk of heart disease. It also lowers the chances of getting a stroke. Besides, an optimistic person is less likely to experience disabilities as he gets older. Less tension means less wear and tear of the brain. A happy brain seldom gets Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.

It is impossible to dismiss optimism since, among other things, it helps students manage stress, enhances physical health, lessens anxiety and sadness, and promotes productivity and revenue. It makes you happy for the very simple fact of existing. You are very much alive, happy and healthy, reading this. And that in itself is a wonderful achievement.

Optimism is a bit infectious. You run the risk of spreading your optimism to others if you are a student. If not, then you are going to get influenced by it. The world might seem dark and bleak, especially during the monsoon season. But isn’t that season the best time to have a hot cup of tea? Similarly, isn’t it a happy thought to be grateful for having a fully functional body, rather than being bed-ridden?

Here Are Some Ways You Can Cultivate Your Optimism

1. Change Your Thinking

Life is made up of decisions or choices. As a student, you are completely free to do or not do anything. Your life is what you make of it but our reality first begins in our minds. Hence, you have to decide in your mind to be positive despite being in a negative situation. If you want to see beauty, you’ll see it in any way whatsoever, so why not see it?

2. Avoid Negativity

If you want to be optimistic then beware, you’ll keep coming across pessimists in life. These are whiners and toxic creatures. They thrive by sucking out the positivity in you. As a result, you as a student need to set up some good boundaries. Company makes a man who he is, therefore, make sure to choose a company that is always optimistic! Do not indulge or get absorbed into people who think the world revolves around them. They lack empathy and can make you get stuck in their cycle of misery.

3. Express Gratitude

The hallmark of an optimistic person is the expression of gratitude which in itself is a positive emotion. Lamenting over things that have gone wrong is counterproductive. But appreciating the things that you have and feeling grateful for them will keep you optimistic. It encourages the brain to see things in a positive light.

4. Forgive

Forgiveness changes your perspective and life effectively. Forgiving someone lets you out from being trapped in the past and only then do you come into the present. The first place to acquire the virtue of forgiveness is with you, yourself. First, forgive yourself for any transgressions and mistakes of the past. It will be simple for you as a student to forgive those who have wronged you after you have let go of your baggage. Only by forgiving can you move forward into a better, happy future.

So, make optimism the new motto of life. Be optimistic, spread optimism.
