Besant Women?s College was founded in 1977 by the late Manel Srinivas Nayak, then president of WNES, with the support of his successors, the late B. Damodar Prabhu and the late Manel Krishna Nayak. The college is inspired by the values of Dr. Annie Besant, a renowned social reformer and Theosophist. As one of the few colleges in the district dedicated exclusively to women, we aim to provide higher education to girls, especially those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
The college is affiliated with Mangalore University and offers undergraduate programs in Arts, Commerce & Business Management, and Science, leading to degrees such as B.A., B.Com., B.B.A., B.Sc. (General, FND, H.Sc), and BCA, with a variety of subject combinations.
Besant Women?s College is a grant-in-aid institution, recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act of 1956. In December 2024, the college successfully completed its fourth cycle of accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Over the years, the college has earned a reputation for academic excellence. Our students have also excelled in athletics, achieving notable performances at both national and international levels.
