FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which exams do I need to study abroad?

Most universities require an English proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE). For postgraduate programmes, you may also need GRE or GMAT. Some countries like Germany may require a German language test for German-taught programmes. We assess your profile and tell you exactly which exams your target universities need.

Does CollegeMarker charge for study-abroad counselling?

No. Our counselling, university shortlisting, SOP review, and application support are completely free. We are paid by partner universities, so students never pay for our services.

Can I work while studying abroad?

Yes, most countries allow part-time work on a student visa — typically 20 hours per week during term and full-time during breaks. Australia allows 48 hours per fortnight, Canada 20 hours per week, and the UK 20 hours per week.

How long does the application process take?

Plan 6–12 months ahead. Start with exams, then shortlist universities, prepare SOPs and documents, apply, wait for offers (4–8 weeks), accept and apply for your visa. Starting early gives you the best chance at scholarships.

Are scholarships available for Indian students?

Absolutely. Most countries and universities offer merit-based, need-based, and country-specific scholarships. Australia has Destination Australia, the UK has Chevening and Commonwealth, Germany has DAAD, and Canada has Vanier. We help you identify and apply for every scholarship you qualify for.

What if my IELTS score is low?

Some universities offer conditional admission with a requirement to pass an English course on arrival. Others accept alternative tests like PTE or Duolingo English Test. We match you with universities whose requirements fit your current score.
