Wisdom and Its Myriad Forms

Summary: What is wisdom, words of wisdom and spiritual wisdom quotes
“Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” ― Albert Einstein.
Wisdom Meaning: Wisdom, undefinable as it is, somehow makes its presence felt. Words may not suffice to describe what wisdom is but one knows it when he sees it. It may be observed that wise people are usually calm in a crisis. They’re thoughtful, self-reflective, and can step back to focus on the bigger picture. They know that the world is ever-changing, there are limits to their knowledge and hence consider alternative perspectives. It is a natural inclination to associate wisdom with age, knowledge accumulation and experiences garnered as a result of passing through the plethora of challenges that life poses before one. Yet age doesn’t in any way determine the degree of wisdom in man. In order to become wise as a student, one must merely choose the best experiences from their past. Wisdom and words of wisdom are a product of learning fundamental ways of viewing one’s life and surroundings as one progresses in time. Words of wisdom mustn’t be confused with intelligence. Yes, intelligence is of great use to any individual. However, it's not always necessary to connect a student's intelligence with wisdom. It is safe to say that wisdom gives students the ability to deal with uncertainty and maintain optimism even in the most trying circumstances. For them, the formula to life is simple; even the trickiest of problems comes with a solution. Students can share their wisdom without being exceptional. Nor does one have to rise up to the level of Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa. Wisdom is only a matter of choice. It’s nothing impossible. Any student could become wise if they only tried; after all, wisdom does actually spare us from much suffering and negativity. Well, here are some tips to get on the pathway of wisdom:
  1. Think Before You Speak

A statement that is universal; from a little child to an adult, one is always advised to give a thought before speaking out loud. However, students frequently only consider this after saying something foolish. Words once spoken cannot be taken back; the damage that ensues cannot be undone. Speaking comes easy, however, the consequences might be irreversible. Thus, thinking becomes a crucial factor on the pathway to words of wisdom.
  1. There Is Never a ‘Right Time’

In professional life, wisdom is the one mantra every individual should swear by. Administration, decision-making, company policies and much more cannot function on an unprofessional basis. Even if students may want to do something, we always have an excuse for why it is not the proper time to do it. This is strange since students need to have an explanation for doing something rather than using the tired justifications . However, there is no better time than “right now” to start something new. Time and tide wait for none, so you are the only one who’ll lose in the waiting game. Waiting helps in getting older, not wiser.
  1. Don’t Jump to Conclusions

Whenever someone is upset, they are bound to get emotional. However, acting on such an emotional impulse isn’t always the ideal thing to do. Anger can only lead to conflict, anarchy and quite unfortunately in a worst-case scenario, irreversible damage. Thus, it is always necessary that one calms down, puts things to perspective, reviews facts, refrains from making assumptions and engages in decision making on the basis of evidence. It’s not just enough to read up on wisdom quotes, it is necessary that one acts accordingly.
  1. Don’t Blindly Accept the Status Quo

Students don't have to participate in an activity just because their peers are. Falling for the ‘bandwagon effect’ is something that should be seriously avoided. Just because people around you are frantically buying an iPhone, doesn’t mean you should get one too. In such a situation, reasoning out becomes very important; “Is this what I really want?” There would be a million influences; myriad advertisements, that guy out there on YouTube and so on. However, students must use judgment and make the best decision for themselves. Wisdom doesn’t spring up from listening to words of wisdom or reading up on spiritual wisdom quotes, but is rather innate, deep rooted in contemplation and decision.
  1. Overcome Impulsiveness

As a student, it is enjoyable to be impulsive and embark on lengthy drives, excursions, or vacations. However, only acting upon impulse in life can be catastrophic. If not pave way for success, this will definitely pave way for failure. Humans are endowed with reason which might be used to their advantage to make informed choices based on logic and intuition.
